Champurrado
Champurrdo is a Mexican corn-based drink also known as an atole. Made with Mexican chocolate tablets and infused with bold spices like fresh cinnamon and whole cloves makes seeping on this hot chocolate beverage an indulgent experience. Perfect to pair with cookies or alongside a porridge or a sandwich.
Ingredients:
500ml milk (coconut or almond milk)
7 whole cloves
1 tsp ground cinnamon
⅛ tsp ground nutmeg
½ tsp ground all spice
½ Ibarra Mexican Chocolate Tablet
20g masa flour
125ml water
Directions:
Add all the ingredients to a saucepan and whisk well to combine.
Bring to a simmer on medium level heat for 5 to 10 minutes while whisking to prevent any lumps from forming.
Turn off the heat and pour the hot chocolate in a glass blender. Release the opening from the lid to let off steam and blitz the contents on high speed until all the contents are very well combined. Feel free to strain this hot chocolate before serving.
Pour the hot chocolate in a mug and stir with a cinnamon stick to intensify the flavour of the cinnamon in the hot beverage.
Serve as is for an indulgent experience or together with a Gordita or Chilaquiles for a satiating and relaxing meal.
